Some parts of the US do not use the word “muffler” but it is used in some places (New England, for example, uses muffler too).

Re: scarf vs. muffler. That’s more of a UK English distinction – A scarf is a woman’s scarf or a silk scarf as was worn by early pilots. A winter scarf is a muffler in the UK (to the best of my knowledge).

SLICE AND DICE!

In the U.K. we can use “jittery” to mean “anxious/tense” about something.
For example: “You’re very jittery, is something wrong?”

But we also wouldn’t use it to mean “shaking because of the cold”. I think “jittery” is always a combination of something physical and mental.

Terry 대한민국에서 오셨습니까? That’s awesome! I lived in Geochang, Gyeongnam, for three years from 2008-2011. I loved my time in Korea, teaching English at a high school. I was acutely aware of the pressures my students were under. Some of them would finish school at 5pm, quickly eat a bowl of ramyeon noodles and then go off to hagwon until late at night. This meant of course that they couldn’t stay awake in my class the next day. I often felt that the high pressure for excellent education in Korea was counter-productive, often about quantity rather than quality. Still, the speed that (South) Korea is developing shows that something must be going right.

I guess it’s used in that way in the States. Interesting. Funny how the same expression can mean different things in different countries.

Assault and battery is the combination of two violent crimes: assault (the threat of violence) and battery (physical violence). This legal distinction exists only in jurisdictions that distinguish assault as threatened violence rather than actual violence.

You would also say:

a woman who threw cupcakes at her husband.

… instead of saying “to her husband”. When you say, “to her husband”, it sounds more like they were playing a friendly game of “catch” with a cupcake.
